Advanced sensor concept for positioning and / or loading tasks in industry and logistics

A German SME that developed a sensor suite for large gantry cranes offers the related sensor and positioning technology to industrial partners within commercial agreements with technical assistance. Applications are in position detection and control for automation tasks, position detection of mobile equipment or 3D collision avoidance. The new technology results in a reduction of costs due to optimized equipment utilization up to autonomous operation and easy supervision from a remote location.

Partner sought

Industrial partners who would be interested in transferring this technology to the challenges they are facing are sought for commercial agreements with technical assistance. The technology can be applied wherever position detection and control for automation of indoor or outdoor equipment is required, e.g. for load tracking and control at large gantry cranes incl. anti-sway and active use of sway, position detection of mobile equipment or precise mapping of stockyards for numerous goods. The German company would adjust the solution to the specific requirements of the partner. They would provide the technical assistance required to put the solution into operation.

A German company with an interdisciplinary team is specialized in technology and software for advanced control and automation for major industries. The company provides turn-key solutions for complex automation task where standard solutions either fail or are simply not available. The company has carried out a range of projects targeting different industrial sectors. References include solutions for automation of ship loaders and unloaders as well as autonomous repair of carbon fiber reinforced plastic components. The company offers sensor and positioning technology that was developed within a sensor suite for large gantry cranes. This sensor suite allows for accurate control of the load, reducing damage in autonomous, remote-controlled or conventional crane operation. Furthermore, the system provides input about the surroundings, be it the distribution of iron ore in a bulk carrier’s hatch or an accurate mapping of container positions. All this information is delivered in an easy-to-use package integrating the most advanced sensor systems via a dedicated evaluation unit with direct interfaces to all major programmable logic controller (PLC) control systems. The entirely new sensor concept combines a newly developed 3D laser scanner, field proven RTK GPS (real time kinematic global positioning system) positioning solutions and leading-edge processing technology. In most installations the same sensor can be used to track the load and scan the entire crane environment. Whereas the 3D scanner is the “eye” of the automation system, a high-performance evaluation unit - the “brain” - is mounted on the crane and connected with the PLC. In this evaluation unit, data from the real-time sensors ensures a continuous update of the energy and position model for the load along its trajectory. At the same time all scan data is geo-referenced and pre-processed to allow further handling by standard PLC systems. Together this information allows a precise “landing” of the load at any given point. Industrial partners who would be interested in transferring this technology to the challenges they are facing are sought for commercial agreements with technical assistance. The technology can be applied wherever position detection and control for automation of indoor or outdoor equipment is required. The German company will tailor the solution to the partner's requirements and provide the related expertise.

Advantages and innovations

The German company offers entirely new sensor concepts • This technology offers faster, more accurate and more reliable measurement • The same sensor can control the load movement and scan the entire environment • The solution uses modular system architecture allowing for a staged approach from collision prevention via remote control up to autonomous operation of the equipment • Pre-processing of complex sensor data so that it can be easily interfaced to standard PLCs • If deployed on several machines one operator at a remote location is easily able to supervise the operation of multiple machines at a time with a minimum of required interaction The use of the German company’s sensor technology thus leads to a significant reduction of development cost and project risk for port or machine operators and industrial manufacturers.

How it works

  • Tell us about yourself
  • We’ll discuss with you
  • We put the right partners in touch

EEN help you find the right partner, rather than you going it alone.

Our role is to review and collate the most suitable submissions, and then send them to the client who posted the opportunity. We consult with you, and the client, to make the process professional and easy.

These are live opportunities. Your registration of interest on the site is just like a professional approach to a business at a networking event. To stand the best chance of success, make your submission really sing. Sell why the client who posted the opportunity should work with you. Excite them. Ask questions. Try and avoid copy and pasting words from elsewhere.

Once the client has chosen their partner, we'll introduce them over email and keep in touch with both parties to see how it's going. Sometimes things progress quickly. Sometimes because of changing priorities for either party, things progress slowly, but you never know - your next big business break could start right here.
