The UAV market has remarkably grown in the past years being the traditional fuel carburetors internal combustion engines replaced by engine management systems. Nevertheless, the existing engine management system are addressed to 4 stroke combustion engines, but are equally connected to 2 or 4 stroke combustion engines. Therefore, when connected to a 2 stroke combustion engine, it does not reach as much reliability as when it is connected to a 2 stroke combustion engine. In order to fill this gap, this Spanish engineering company has developed a UAV engine management system specially intended for 2 stroke combustion engines. The system carries out the different function phases of the engine, which are automatically executed: warming-up, speed control and execution of test cycles. The solution integrates the following components: -Engine electronic control unit: It allows the control of all engine processes: fuel injection, dual ignition, engine speed (fly-by-wire), redundant fuel supply, propeller pitch, sensors and actuators diagnosis, engine health monitoring. The control algorithms are specifically designed for two strokes engines. -Micro geared fuel pump for electronic fuel injection systems. -Controller for brushless motors: It regulates precisely the speed of brushless motors without being affected by variations in voltage, typical in battery powered systems. It is specifically designed for the control of UAV fuel pumps. It is able to control the motor speed with independence of the supplied voltage which is very useful in returnless fuel systems with pressure control. - Injection Throttle Body: It can be directly integrated into 2 and 4 strokes reciprocating and rotative engines. It is suitable for engine displacements between 150 and 250 cm3. A servomechanism directly coupled to the throttle valve shaft returns a feedback signal corresponding to the angle of aperture of the throttle valve, making this system very adequate for drive-by-wire engine management schemes. The throttle valve shaft turns over two shielded, lubricated and service-free ball bearings. The company is looking for international partners within the UAVs sector (engine manufacturers, powerplants integrators and manufacturers or integrators of aerial platforms) willing to integrate this technology within their UAVs developments under license agreement.

Main advantage regarding this technology is based on its specific adaptation to the 2 stroke internal combustion engines. The UAV engine degrades over time and if using a regular engine management system (intended for 4 stroke engine) it decreases performance and efficiency little by little until it breaks down. On the other hand, the engine management system developed by the Spanish company includes algorithms specially intended for a 2 stroke engines, that provide a regular engine performance, without losses, until it ends up broken down.
