A French Technology Transfer Office offers a new device for single cell manipulation.
A French Technology Transfer Office (TTO) offers a new device useful for genomics, cloning or stem cell biology to get an innovative manipulation and more precisely a single cell manipulation. The efficiency of the process has been demonstrated. The French TTO is looking for industrial partners for a technical cooperation or a license agreement.
The partner sought could be a company interested in a license agreement or a technical cooperation agreement. The industrial partner could be a manufacturer of automated dispensing systems. The partner should have a clear industrial application in mind: for example, to develop the prototype or to insert the innovative chip into its automated process in order to co-develop the product with the laboratory. The microfluidic device could be tested in Paris and a laboratory visit could be organised to have a better understanding of this technology.
The French TTO (Technology Transfer Office) is acting on behalf of an established public laboratory of the leading French scientific based in the Paris region. A French laboratory has developed a disruptive technology for single cell manipulation that enables analysis of single cells out of a complex mixture of cells. This type of analysis is crucial to understand complex systems in research areas as diverse as neurology, stem cell biology and oncogenesis (formation of a cancer). To achieve single cell manipulation, researchers currently use expertise requiring specific devices (by samples analyses) or laborious techniques (by micro dissection). A new device has been designed with a microfluidic chip to encapsulate cells in a very small volume (2nL). This is an innovative approach because a single cell can be easily extracted and isolated for further analysis such as cloning and genomics. The channels of the chips can easily be changed to adapt to various cell types, ranging from bacteria to neurons. Several types of applications could be planned: -cells manipulation, -cell cloning -single cell genomics -single cell transcriptomics The partner sought could be a company interested in : - a license agreement as the TTO is ready to negotiate directly the patents rights for specific applications, or - a technical cooperation agreement.
Advantages and innovations
Currently no solution available on the market permits to manipulate a single cell easily. The advantages of this technology: -easy learning system, requires little manipulation time -adjustable to various cell types (sizes and shapes) -rapid treatment of the sample (>3000 droplets/hour) -no dead volume (exhaustive exploitation of sample) The device is meant to be held by any automated device allowing droplet distribution of a plate (96 or 384 wells).
