A Polish research institute working on wood technologies has developed an innovative technology that helps to protect wood against light thanks to transparent lacquer with an addition of metal oxides. The technology is developed as a laboratory tested method of wood protection. The institute is currently looking for foreign technology or business partners to further develop the technology and implement it in their local markets. The desired type of agreement is license agreement.

The Polish research institute working on wood technologies is a national leader in the development of different wood-related technologies. The team of scientists working at the Institute has developed an innovative technology in the form of a method of wood surface protection against light and an agent for implementation of this method. Wood surfaces protected using the method according to the invention are characterised by lightfastness which is higher than or similar to that of elements finished with lacquers containing UV absorbers on the basis of inorganic compounds, such as titanium and zinc oxides. An additional value lies in the fact that thanks to the use of oxides the effect of coating whitening can be minimised, which is especially important in the case of dark wood species. The use of the newly developed method of wood protection against light makes it possible to obtain finished surface characterised by a clear wood pattern, which undoubtedly is an important factor when it comes to assessment of the aesthetics of furniture surface finishing. The Institute is now willing to introduce this technology to the market. Therefore it is looking for industrial partners from plywood industry and partners with appropriate laboratory equipment, team and experience in research and development of new agents and chemical products for wood protection and wood coatings. The desired type of agreement is non-exclusive license. The desired type of cooperation is further development of the technology to the industrial scale and introduction of the product on the international scale.
