Improved lithium-ion battery performance with nanofoam metal current collectors

Summary

A Singapore academic and research institute has developed novel nanofoam metal current collectors using the ultrasonic synthetic method. They improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries, resulting in better charge/discharge rates in lithium-ion batteries. The institute is keen on technology licensing partnerships with MNEs or SMEs of all sizes.

Partner sought

The Singapore-based institute seeks to partner SMEs of all sizes or MNEs. The partner sought could be an industry participant in the electric vehicle, chemical, or electronic device industries, who is keen on exploring partnerships via licensing agreements where the partner could license the technology to further develop and introduce it to its market segments.

Description

The institute has developed innovative nanofoam metal current collectors using a low cost and scalable ultrasonic method. The nanoporous foam collectors are designed to prepare copper metal for the anode and aluminum or nickel for the cathode of batteries. The nanoporous foam collectors improve the electrochemical retention and cycling stability properties of lithium-ion batteries. Based on the results from measurements made on lithium-ion batteries after 500 cycles of charge/discharge, it was concluded that batteries assembled with nanofoam metal current collectors exhibited superior performance of 10.1% compared to commercially available batteries. This innovative solution is expected to find applications in electric vehicles and electronic devices. It can also be used as a high surface area catalyst support in various applications. The Singapore institute is keen to establish partnerships with industry players such as MNEs or SMEs of all sizes by licensing this technology.

Advantages and innovations

The benefits offered by ultrasonic chemistry and etching processes are integrated into the design of the nanofoam metal current collectors. Lithium-ion batteries integrated with nanofoam metal current collectors exhibit better performance than conventional batteries due to the following: • Better cycling stability • Better charge holding capacity

How it works

  • Tell us about yourself
  • We’ll discuss with you
  • We put the right partners in touch

EEN help you find the right partner, rather than you going it alone.

Our role is to review and collate the most suitable submissions, and then send them to the client who posted the opportunity. We consult with you, and the client, to make the process professional and easy.

These are live opportunities. Your registration of interest on the site is just like a professional approach to a business at a networking event. To stand the best chance of success, make your submission really sing. Sell why the client who posted the opportunity should work with you. Excite them. Ask questions. Try and avoid copy and pasting words from elsewhere.

Once the client has chosen their partner, we'll introduce them over email and keep in touch with both parties to see how it's going. Sometimes things progress quickly. Sometimes because of changing priorities for either party, things progress slowly, but you never know - your next big business break could start right here.
